Arrests:
8:35am San Jose/Ocean Narcotics
Motorcycle Traffic Enforcement Officer Villaruel was on routine patrol when he observed a vehicle driving down the center “streetcar only” portion of Ocean Avenue. While following the vehicle, the officer watched the driver make an illegal U-turn across a double-yellow line, while still on Ocean Avenue. After witnessing two traffic violations, Officer Villaruel stopped the vehicle at San Jose and Ocean Avenue. The driver rolled down his window, and Officer Villaruel smelled a strong odor of alcohol and marijuana coming from the vehicle and noticed the driver had bloodshot eyes and a sweaty face. The officer asked the driver for his license, registration, and insurance, but the driver refused to provide the documents and started arguing with the officer. Officer Villaruel requested backup and other Ingleside patrol units arrived at the scene. After repeatedly refusing to provide any information, the driver was placed under arrest and taken to Mission Police Station for a DUI investigation. A search of the vehicle turned up a large quantity of marijuana. The driver was booked for driving under the influence, transporting marijuana, and marijuana possession for sale. Report number: 130171723
10:53am 100 Blk Brazil Assault
Officer Zerga and Sgt. Springer, along with several other Ingleside units, responded to several reports of a woman yelling for assistance. After arriving, the officers found a woman crouched on the sidewalk, covering her eyes, yelling in pain. The woman’s husband, standing next to her, told officers that a resident of a nearby home sprayed a chemical into his wife’s eyes. While paramedics treated the woman, officers interviewed the suspect who admitted spraying the woman in the face with pepper spray. The officer then interviewed the woman’s husband who said he and his wife were walking down the sidewalk and contacted the suspect who was blocking the sidewalk with his truck. They asked the suspect to move the truck and an argument ensued with, according to the victims, the suspect telling the couple, “go back to China”. The suspect then pulled out the pepper spray and sprayed the victim at close range. The suspect was transported to Ingleside Station and charged with assault. Report number: 130172050
Serious Incidents:
Officers Campos and Suguitan were on routine patrol when they were dispatched to a report of a burglary. The victim told officers she was home when she heard the front doorbell ring. Not expecting any deliveries or visitors, she ignored the bell. Soon thereafter, she heard someone knocking on her front door. While looking through the door’s peephole, she heard her back door being kicked open. She ran to her back door and noticed it was severely damaged and while there, she heard her front door being kicked in. The victim ran back to the front door and started yelling that she was home at which point, the suspects fled. The victim told the officers that just prior to the attempted break-in, she heard a stranger speaking English at her back door. The suspects never got in, due to the homeowners quick thinking, and no loss was reported. Report number: 130172191
9:40pm Ocean/Howth Robbery
Officer Noguchi spoke to a victim about a robbery that occurred earlier near the Balboa Park BART station. The victim told the officer that she was walking down Ocean Avenue, talking on her phone, when an unknown suspect ran up behind her and grabbed the phone out of her hand. The suspect ran away in an unknown direction. The victim said she was not injured and did not need any medical attention. Report number: 130173939
CRIME ALERT: There has been an increase in auto boostings around Precita Park and the surrounding area. Don’t be a Victim.
Take extra precautions to avoid a criminal window-shopping inside your car. Never give them a reason to break into your car and steal your belongings.
Safety Tips:
*Try to park in a well- lit area and always lock your doors and secure your windows.
*Do not leave possessions on the seat or in plain view.
*Never hide belongings under the seat: This is the first place burglars check.
*Never cover expensive items with an article of clothing or blanket: This presents a hidden clue to thieves that items may be underneath.
*Do not leave any important documents inside your car that contain your personal information.
* Do not leave phone or MP3 chargers plugged in: this leads the burglar to believe there are expensive electronics inside your car.
Remember, if a criminal is unsuccessful and is not benefitting from his criminal activity, the thief will move on, thus making your neighborhood less of a target.
