Arrests:
3:40pm Avalon/Lisbon Vandalism
Officer Fung responded to Avalon and Lisbon Street regarding a gun call. The victim had called and stated that her husband threatened to assault her and who might possibly be armed with a gun. When he arrived he noticed a male suspect pacing back and forth on the sidewalk. The male suspect appeared to be angry and yelling at another male and female who were standing behind a gate. The male suspect was accompanied by three males (friends) who were standing back and watching the incident unfold. Because of the possible involvement of firearms, Officer Fung took control of the situation and drew his firearm and ordered the male suspect to the ground.
The suspect complied and followed Officer Fung’s orders. Officer Fung placed the suspect in handcuffs and sat him down on the ground. Officer Fung searched the suspect and found no gun or other weapons. The male and female who were standing behind the gate came out and began yelling at the suspect and agitating the whole situation. The suspect sitting down became even more angry, stood up and walked towards the male and female victims. Being a solo officer on scene and for officer safety, Officer Fung called for back-up, while at the same time ordering the suspect back on the ground.
The suspect refused to listen, so Officer Fung had to use force and physically take the suspect back down to the ground. Within moments, the Calvary arrived and assisted Officer Fung in separating all the parties involved. Officer Fung spoke to the female victim who stated the whole argument started because the father of her 5yr old child was supposed to pick him up from school, but called her and said he would not be able to because he was watching the game and having a couple drinks.
The female victim got upset and an argument erupted. Soon after, the suspect came over and began yelling out in the street and kicked the male victim’s car, which was parked on the street. The suspect then threatened the male victim and was challenging him to a fight. The suspect was transported to Ingleside station where he was ultimately cited and released. Report number 120814632.
7:48pm Ocean/Howth Drug Arrest
Officer Burlyga, of the City College Campus Police Department, was patrolling the college campus when he observed a Red light violation committed in his presence. Officer Burlyga stopped the vehicle on a routine traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, Officer Burlyga smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. When the suspect was asked if there was any marijuana in his vehicle, he replied he had a medical marijuana card. The suspect seemed nervous and kept looking side to side and up and down.
Officer Burlyga again asked the driver if there was marijuana in the car to which the driver replied by nodding his head up and down, indicating he did. Once other units arrived to assist, they removed the driver from the vehicle. The driver admitted he was transporting some wet marijuana from his residence to his girlfriend’s residence to dry it. Officer Burlyga proceeded to search the vehicle and saw a large Blue bucket resting on the passenger seat. Inside the bucket, were three paper bags containing a large amount of marijuana.
Based on Officer Burlyga’s observations, the driver’s statement and the fact that the amount of marijuana was definitely more than a medical marijuana patient would need for personal use, the driver was placed in handcuffs and under arrest. The driver was transported to City College police station for processing and then later booked at County Jail. The vehicle was towed and all the marijuana seized and booked as evidence. Report number 120815511.
