A woman woke up in her home and noticed that her lights were out. A short time later she heard a knock on her bedroom door. She got out of bed and yelled, “Who is it?” When there was no answer she opened her door and spotted two unknown men running away. The victim yelled again, “What are you doing in my home? Who are you?” The two men, now joined by a third man and a woman, ran out of the home and got into a white van parked in the driveway. The van quickly drove away. Ingleside officers Cvetovac, Lim, Gomez, Glover, and Elliston arrived soon thereafter. The officers searched the home but were unable to determine how the burglars entered the house. They did discover that the suspects turned off the power to the home at the main junction box. The officers found several neighbors with video surveillance and are reviewing footage for clues. The homeowner said she was unable at that time to determine if anything of value was taken from her residence. Report number: 170356145

Traffic Safety Enforcement Operations Plan for San Francisco with OTS Grant

The San Francisco Police Department will conduct Traffic Safety Enforcement Operations on May 4th, 8th, 16th and 26th with a focus on bicycle and pedestrian safety. Over the past three years, the department has identified areas where significant numbers of pedestrian and bicycle-related collisions have occurred and responded by deploying additional officers to those areas in an effort to prevent deaths and injuries. Special attention will be given to Focus on the Five violations: excessive and unsafe speed, unsafe turns, failure to stop for signs and signals, failure to yield to pedestrians in cross walks, as well as any other dangerous violation.

San Francisco is committed to eliminating traffic deaths on our streets by 2024 as part of Vision Zero SF. Vision Zero SF is our city’s commitment to prioritize safe streets for everyone.

Bicycle and pedestrian fatalities are rising in California as more people use these non-motorized means of transportation. In 2013, California witnessed 701 pedestrians and 141 bicyclists killed, accounting for more than 28 percent of all traffic fatalities.

All riders are reminded to always wear a helmet – those under 18 years of age must wear helmets by law. Pedestrians should cross the street only in marked or unmarked crosswalks at corners. All motorists are reminded to be mindful of others who share the road.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Ingleside Officers Cagney and Dominguez were on routine patrol when they spotted several men fighting in the middle of the street. The officers, radioed for backup, and stopped next to the altercation to break up the fight. One of the combatants entered a black Honda Pilot which was parked nearby. The officers ordered the combatants and the driver of the Honda out of the car while they secured the scene. During that process, Ingleside Officer Young noticed several shell casings and an ammunition magazine on the ground near the front door of the Honda. The officers searched the Honda and found a firearm inside the vehicle. The driver of the Honda was a convicted felon and, as such, was not allowed to have a firearm. He was arrested at the scene and booked. Report number: 170352654

Ingleside Officers Lee and Archilla were searching for a stolen vehicle being monitored, using GPS, by the owner. The officers spotted the car at 24^th and Potrero and started following it as it drove slowly through the Mission. Soon, the officers were joined by a CHP unit that was also searching for the car. The CHP officer activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to pull over the driver. However, the driver didn’t pull over and started speeding through intersections on Bryant and other nearby streets. Fearing for public safety, the CHP officer turned off his siren and emergency lights but, along with Lee and Archilla, kept following the stolen car. A short time later the suspect collided with another vehicle at 23^rd and Folsom. After the collision the driver and a passenger exited the stolen vehicle and attempted to escape in separate directions. The driver was apprehended by the CHP officer and a Mission District unit on the 3000 block of 22^nd Street. Officers Lee and Archilla were able to apprehend the passenger on the 2500 block of Folsom Street. The driver was charged with auto theft, evading a police officer, driving without a license, burglary tools, illegal possession of a weapon, hit and run, and other crimes. A young man, sprinting for a stopped #8 Muni bus, was suddenly punched in the mouth causing the victim to fall to the ground. The suspect then punched the victim several more times before removing the victim’s headphones and sprinting away. Medics were summoned to treat the victim’s injuries at the scene while Ingleside Officers Mora and Naser searched the surrounding neighborhood for the suspect. Report number: 170351474

Ingleside Officers Colclough and Stoffel were on routine patrol when they observed a late model Mercedes make an illegal U-Turn on Alemany. The officers pulled up behind the Mercedes, activated their emergency lights, and attempted to stop the vehicle. Instead of stopping, the vehicle kept driving away for several blocks before finally stopping on the 1300 Block of Cayuga Avenue. The driver was subsequently ordered out of the car. A computer check revealed he was an unlicensed driver. He was cited for that violation as well as several vehicle code violations. Report number: 170347172

Two alert citizens helped police arrest a burglar. The witnesses said they were parking their vehicle when they noticed a man walking down the street, talking on his cellphone, while peering into parked vehicles. They thought it was suspicious and when the suspect noticed the couple, he turned around and walked away. However, he returned a short time later and crouched down next to a parked Scion, took out a tool, and broke out the Scion’s passenger window. The suspect then took out a backpack and started walking away. The couple called police and Ingleside Officers Dito, Garza, Hardy, and Scot arrived on scene and found the suspect, with the stolen backpack on the 500 block of Bosworth. He was identified by the couple and was arrested at the scene and taken to Ingleside Station for booking. The backpack, containing school projects and supplies, was returned to its owner. A man and woman, soundly asleep, were startled by the sound of footsteps in their hallway, outside their bedroom, and then a car speeding off. They woke up went into their home and found their front door open and their front window smashed in. A woman walked into Ingleside Station to report a theft. She told Police Services Aid Bruce that she lost her phone to three thieves while riding #49 Muni bus. Ingleside Officer Wells was dispatched to investigate a call of a robbery. When he arrived he found the victim standing in the doorway suffering from injuries to his head, neck, and back. He told Wells that he was walking southbound on Mission, near Leese Street, when he noticed he was being followed by four juveniles. He kept walking and told the officers he didn’t feel threatened until he felt someone tug at his backpack. The four juveniles pushed him against a garage door and demanded his backpack. One of the four lifted up a shirt exposing a firearm. The victim surrendered his backpack, but that didn’t deter the suspects to kick and punch the victim several times before escaping on foot toward Leese Street. Report number: 170345900

A woman walking home was the victim of a violent robbery. She told Ingleside Officers Marshall, Anderson, and Tom that she was about to enter her home when two suspects ran up to her and punched her from behind, sending her to the ground. They unsuccessfully tried to rip her purse from her grasp while she was on the ground. Then one of the suspect’s punched her in the head which forced the victim to release her grip on her purse. The suspects then fled westbound on Sunrise Way. The loss were house keys, cell phone, Clipper Card, and California ID. The victim was transported to Seton Medical Center for treatment. A high school student, walking from the bus stop toward his girlfriend’s home, was suddenly accosted by a young man who violently grabbed the victim’s backpack. The suspect demanded his property while displaying a firearm under his shirt. The student, fearing for his life, surrendered his backpack, cell phone, earphones, and other property. The victim told Ingleside Officers Ocreto and Alioto, the suspect escaped by running away toward West Portal. Report number: 170341334

A woman, home with her husband, heard her front doorbell ring. She told Ingleside Officers Hornstein and Burke, she went to the front door and looked through the small window and saw two men she didn’t know. The men, apparently, not noticing the homeowner turned around and left the front door. About 5 minutes later she and her husband heard a loud noise from the front door. The husband, picked up a stick, and ran to the front door, opened it, and chased the two men down the stairway and down the block to a waiting sedan. The men got into the car which sped off north on Athens and then east on Rolph St. (Captain’s Note: It’s never safe to chase suspects away if your home. If you believe someone is trying to break into your home call 911, stay behind your locked door, and tell the potential burglars you’re calling the police) Report number: 170341613

11:14am     3300 Blk Mission St.              Threats/Battery

The call came in to dispatch of a woman hiding in a restaurant restroom from an attacker. Ingleside Officers Leung and Suguitan and other units quickly responded and found the victim emotionally shaken and in tears. She told the officers that she was walking northbound on Mission Street when she felt an object hit her on her shoulder. She turned around and noticed a tape measure on the ground beside her. The victim picked up the tape measure and confronted the unknown attacker who then “threatened to kill her”. The victim ran to a nearby restaurant, hid in the bathroom, while she and witnesses called police. Leung and Suguitan reviewed the witnesses’ cell phone video of the attack and, after she signed a citizen’s arrest form, placed the suspect under arrest, for battery and threats. 8:56pm       600 Blk. Terresita                  D.U.I

A loud crash startled a homeowner who looked out his front window and saw the woman driver of an older Chevy Tahoe, with considerable front end damage, driving northbound on Terresita. He also noticed that two parked cars had been just hit. The witness called police while following the Tahoe driver until she finally pulled to a stop on the unit block of Molimo Drive. The witness got out of his vehicle walked up to the Tahoe Driver and asked her to surrender her keys. She told the witness that she was ‘confused. I’m not from here”.  Ingleside Officer Calupad arrived and questioned the driver. He noticed she had slowed and slurred speech and droopy watery eyes. He asked her to take a breath alcohol test, but she refused. She did agree to take a field sobriety test which she failed. She then changed her mind and agreed to take a breath alcohol test.
