Scam Alert:  Here is how it works: the suspect will call the victim and identify himself as a PG&E employee.  The suspect will ask for the victim by name and ask if he/she is the owner of a particular business or property.  Once the victim replies yes, the suspect tells the victim that his/her bill is delinquent in a specific amount.  The suspect then tells the victim that he/she needs to pay the delinquent bill by a certain time or their service will be terminated.  The suspect instructs the victim to buy MoneyPak cards in a specific amount.  The suspect then instructs the victim to read the card's code numbers to him over the phone.  Once that is done, the money is gone and the scam is complete.

The suspect will give the victim a call-back number that goes to a voicemail that identifies itself via recording as PG&E.

Arrests:

11:52am     4800 Blk. Mission                   Narcotics
Ingleside officers Yuen and Archilla were on routine patrol when they spotted a man leaning against a window of a business smoking a cigarette. While they were interviewing the man, they noticed he surreptitiously dropped a small pack of what appeared to be Methamphetamine on the ground behind his back. The officers placed the suspect in handcuffs and searched the immediate area where they found a glass pipe used to smoke the narcotic. The suspect was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for narcotics violations. Report number: 140003887

9:02pm       Mission/Excelsior          Narcotics
Three alert Ingleside officers arrested two men and a woman involved in narcotics activity.  Officers Padilla, Seavey, Barajas, and Sgt. Alvarez were on Mission when they noticed a vehicle, with a man and woman inside, stop near the intersection of Mission and Excelsior. The male passenger exited the vehicle and ran inside a business while the woman, with the engine running, waited at the curb. Suspicious that this might be a narcotics purchase, the three officers waited for the man to exit the business and the approached him to ask some questions. While conducting the interview, the man started becoming very agitated and refused to identify himself. He wouldn’t answer any questions about his parole or probation status or if he was carrying anything illegal.

One of the officers interviewed the woman driver and she immediately admitted she was on probation and that her purse in the car contained two hypodermic needles; one loaded with black tar Heroin, and a glass pipe used to smoke Methamphetamine. Moments later, the male suspect provided the officers with his full name. A computer check revealed he was on probation with a warrantless search condition. He was handcuffed, and the officers discovered a quantity of Methamphetamine in one of his pockets. A search of the suspect’s vehicle turned up a credit card reader, a stolen driver’s license, a stolen social security card, and numerous pieces of paper with credit card numbers, with the card’s security codes and expiration dates. During the arrest of the man and woman, the male suspect’s brother, who also had an arrest record, walked by and entered the same business his brother was seen entering a short time before. Officer Padilla went into the business, identified himself, and asked about the person’s current criminal status. The brother admitted he was a parolee, however, a computer check provided much more important information. It turns out the brother also had an arrest warrant out of San Mateo County. All three suspects were taken to Ingleside Station and booked. Case number: 140005667

9:21pm       3300 Blk. Mission                   Robbery
The call came in from dispatch of a store security guard struggling with a shoplifter. When Officer Peregrina arrived, the guard had already gained control of the situation and the shoplifter was in handcuffs. The guard told officer Peregrina that he watched as the suspect placed several toothbrushes in one ankle sock and attempt to leave the store. When the guard tried to stop the shoplifter, he became combative and pulled a knife out of his pocket, threatening to stab the store employee. After a short while, he put the knife back in his pocket and tried to leave the store again. However, this time, the store security guard was able to subdue the suspect and place him in handcuffs. The store employee signed a citizen’s arrest form and the suspect was transported to Ingleside station and booked for robbery and possession of an illegal weapon. Report number: 140005770

Dispatch sent out an alert about a young drunk woman who was throwing garbage cans onto the sidewalk on the 500 block of Mission. Ingleside Officers Morse and Garon-Fermo responded and found the area quiet, but a witness said the suspect had boarded a Muni bus going south on Mission street. The officers drove to catch up to the bus but before reaching the vehicle they spotted the suspect and her boyfriend on the sidewalk yelling at each other. The officers stopped and quickly handcuffed the suspect who had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and was sweating profusely. The officers attempted to put the suspect in the patrol car, but she resisted kicking and screaming and telling Morse and Garon-Fermo that “they were going to pay for this”. Finally, with the help of other units, she was subdued, placed in a patrol wagon, and taken to Ingleside Station where she was booked for public intoxication and resisting arrest. The suspect will give the victim a call-back number that goes to a voicemail that identifies itself via recording as PG&E.

The next community meeting at Ingleside Station will be held on January 21, 2014.  Thank you.

Outstanding Police Work:  Members of the Ingleside Police Station have been hard at work, while putting their lives on the line, and recovered a total of five guns between a five day period, beginning Oct 31, 2013 to Nov 5, 2013. Among the weapons recovered were three handguns, one shotgun and one Tech-9 sub-machine gun all stemming from four separate incidents. Of the five subjects taken into custody, two were on probation and had extensive police records. We strongly believe that these great arrests may have prevented some serious crimes from taking place. Thanks to these great officers, the streets are a little saferJ.

The San Francisco Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) is free training from the San Francisco Fire Department in how to help yourself and your neighbors prepare for and respond to a disaster by working together. The 20-hour training, taught by First Responders, includes personal preparedness, light search and rescue, disaster medicine, shutting off your utilities, and how to participate as a member of a neighborhood response team.  NERT also offers continuing training for graduates and activities that support building robust neighborhood teams.  For more information, visit the NERT website at http://sfgov.org//sffdnert, or contact Lt. Are you someone who is interested in disaster preparedness and wants to help out your community while working hand in hand with law enforcement? Then the ALERT program is for you!

                                            What is the A.L.E.R.T. Program?

The San Francisco Police Department has developed a volunteer citizen disaster preparedness program. The Auxiliary Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) is modeled after and works in partnership with the San Francisco Fire Department's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT). The ALERT program will train members of the public to assist law enforcement in essential tasks after a major disaster. Such tasks may include: traffic control, foot patrol of business and residential areas, and reporting criminal activity. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and live, work, or attend high school in San Francisco.

Three steps to becoming an
A.L.E.R.T. volunteer:
1. Complete NERT training and receive certification. To register for NERT training courses please visit www.sfgov.org/sfnert
2. Once NERT certified, forward a copy of your NERT ID card to the ALERT program. sfpdalert@sfov.org
3. After clearing a basic background check the individual is eligible to register for ALERT training.

The next ALERT training class has been scheduled for Jan. 18th, 2014, from 8:00am-5:00pm. This class will be held at the San Francisco Police Academy, in the parking lot bungalow.

A report of a suspicious person in a vehicle sent Ingleside officers Rueca and Willcom to the 800 block of Eugenia. When they arrived, they found a woman loading items into the back of an older Chevy pickup truck. The woman told the officers she was using the truck to take items to the farmer’s market. When the officers checked the registration, they discovered the truck was reported stolen in November. Another computer check on the suspect revealed she had 5 outstanding warrants for her arrest. She was taken to Ingleside station and booked. Report number: 130981908

10:15pm     1100 Blk Geneva         Drugs
A vehicle with a non-working headlight led to a narcotics arrest. Ingleside officers Holland and Hauscarriague were on routine patrol when they spotted a Volkswagen Golf, with five occupants, driving with one headlight out. The officers stopped the Golf and noticed the strong odor of marijuana while talking to the driver. The driver said he had a marijuana card which permitted his medical use of the substance. The officers also noticed the young driver was shaking uncontrollably during their interview and appeared to be very nervous. The officers asked him to step out of the vehicle while they searched to see if there was a larger quantity of marijuana than was allowed by his medical card. In an ash tray, the officers found a marijuana cigarette and by the hand brake, the officers discovered a large baggie with six separate smaller baggies containing cocaine. The driver was placed in handcuffs while the officers conducted a more thorough search of the car. In the glove box, the officers discovered a digital scale with marijuana residue. In the trunk was another digital scale with cocaine residue. In the suspect’s pants pocket was a cell phone with several text messages from narcotics buyers.
