Recently,
a flyer was distributed to the community regarding scams targeting the monolingual
Chinese. These scams involve telling the
victim that an evil spirit is following them.
They will ask the victim to bring valuables to pray over as an offering
to the spirit. They will return to the victim what is believed to be their valuables.
They will ask the victim not to look at their valuables for a day. When the victim later checks their valuables,
they find that the valuables were not returned by the suspects.
We urge all person(s) confronted with this scam to call 911 as this is a crime in progress. By contacting 911, you greatly increase the chance of catching the suspect(s) so that the police can make an arrest. If someone approaches you with this scam, decline their help, call 911 immediately and report it to the police. Be a good witness. Obtain a description of the suspect(s) and/or vehicles they are driving.

Arrests:
1:17am 4700 Blk. Mission Assault
Officers Carrasco and Dominguez were sent to Mission and Onondaga to investigate the report of a fight between several men. When they arrived, they found two men with injuries to their face, head and arms. The victims were pointing at two men who were fleeing down Onondaga toward Alemany. The victims told police they were security guards at a local restaurant and had evicted the men for causing a disturbance. After escorting the men outside, the two suspects began assaulting the two guards with their feet, fists, and a garbage can, before escaping. The officers called for medical assistance and later detained the two suspects near the corner of Onondaga and Alemany. Both were taken to Ingleside station and booked for assault. 5:57pm Mission/Leo Narcotics
Officers Hurwitz and Fulgado were on routine patrol, driving north on Mission, when they spotted a car with a non-functioning taillight. The vehicles three occupants were wearing seatbelts and looked nervously at the officers when they passed the patrol car. Officers Hurwitz and Fulgado made a u-turn and pulled the vehicle over for the equipment violation. The officers asked the driver and front seat passenger for identification, which they provided. Officer Hurwitz noticed the backseat passenger trying to conceal a cell phone underneath a pizza box. When she asked the passenger for identification, he said he didn’t have any. He provided a false name to Officer Hurwitz who later identified him by his real name. A record check revealed he was a parolee with a warrant for his arrest. He was removed from the vehicle and handcuffed. An arrest search located a quantity of methamphetamine and a plastic bag containing “ecstasy” pills. He also had more than $500 in cash in his pockets. The suspect was booked at Ingleside Station. The narcotics were hand delivered to the Narcotics Drop Box at the Hall of Justice. Report number:130454961
6:31pm 200 Blk. Vienna Narcotics
A report of an armed man smoking methamphetamine in his apartment prompted dispatch to send Ingleside Officers Clifford and Rueca to investigate. When they arrived, the officers met the suspect’s roommate in front of their home. The officers asked the roommate to call the suspect and ask him to step outside. The suspect complied. He gave Officers Clifford and Rueca permission to enter and search his room. The officers entered his room and found a small dog, belonging to the suspect, along with two glass pipes containing methamphetamine. The officers also found a quantity of methamphetamine on a picture frame with an image of the suspect’s dog. Inside a closet, the officers found a loaded pistol, a 22 caliber long rifle with ammunition, and a pellet rifle. The suspect was taken to Ingleside Station and booked on a variety of charges. Officers took pictures of the room and recovered items for evidence. The narcotics were hand delivered to the Narcotics Drop Box at the Hall of Justice. Report number: 130455191
8:25pm 3300 Blk. Mission Theft
Officers Kabanuck and Guzman were sent to a grocery store parking lot to meet a store manager. When they arrived, they talked to the assistant manager of an adjacent drug store who said that he followed a shoplifting suspect from his store before losing sight of him. A short time earlier, he had confronted the same suspect placing several food items into his sweatshirt pockets inside of the store. The suspect pushed pass the manager and walked out of the store as the manager followed him. The officers entered the grocery store and located the suspect eating an open bag of chips. They also found jerky and other food items which they later determined were stolen from the drug store. He was taken to Ingleside Station, cited and released. A computer check also found that he was on active parole. Report number: 13045282

2:01am Felton/Madison Firearm Violation
Officers Kilgariff and Jones were dispatched after a citizen reported someone firing a gun from a car. The officers met four citizens who told them they were parking their car near the intersection of Felton and Madison when they saw a black SUV drive up alongside their car. Soon after the vehicle drove, by a passenger pointed a gun out of the window and fired four shots into the air. The vehicle then drove away in an unknown direction. No words were exchanged. The citizens said they had never seen the suspects before and were unsure if they could recognize them. Officers searched the area for the vehicle and the suspects to no avail. 3:10am 30th/Mission
Robbery
While investigating an alarm at a nearby business, Sgt. Deshong
was approached by a man who said he had just been robbed. The victim told him that
he was in the parking lot of a nearby grocery store when two men approached him
demanding money and his backpack. The victim said he resisted and fought with
both robbers who punched and kicked him while he was on the ground. After the
suspects grabbed his property, they quickly ran away and boarded a waiting Muni
bus. Sgt. Deshong broadcasted a description of the robbers and officers searched
the area unsuccessfully for them. The
officers contacted Muni dispatch and ordered a copy of their surveillance
video. Sgt, Deshong summoned an
ambulance and the victim was treated for his injuries at the scene. Report
