4:43pm       200 Blk. Ottawa                     Stolen Vehicle

We’ve mentioned several times before that older Honda’s are the car of choice for many thieves. Two Ingleside officers, Scott and Anton, with high awareness of this fact were on routine patrol when they were sent to Ottawa Street, near the BART tracks, where callers told dispatch that occupants of an older Honda were trying to pick the lock on a gate leading to the BART tracks. The officers arrived and noticed the Honda with a driver and three passengers parked at the gate. The Honda had been reported stolen and the officers noticed that one of its windows was smashed. Scott and Anton requested backup and, when help arrived, removed the four young occupants from the car. The driver, was placed in custody and cited then released. The other three occupants were released to their parents. Report number: 171017413

9:45am       200 Blk. Evelyn Way                 Vehicle Burglary

It’s no secret that car burglaries have risen to high levels throughout the City and, in response, Ingleside Station’s command staff have committed significant resources to combating this crime. On this date, a car owner left his home, walked toward his parked car nearby, and noticed a man, wearing a black ski mask, peeking around the back of his car. Suddenly, the suspect who was holding a brown box, jumped into an older Volkswagen with paper plates and sped away. The victim walked to his car and noticed a back window broken and items, including the brown box, missing. He called police and fortunately, the suspect, driving the Volkswagen, was soon spotted and stopped by Ingleside Sgt. Anderson, along with Officers Jensen, Klaib, and Ferraresi at Monterey and Ridgewood. The victim was driven to the scene and identified the car and its driver as the suspect in the auto burglary. The victim’s brown box, containing Christmas presents, was found in the car along with burglary tools and a ski mask. The suspect was arrested for auto burglary and driven to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: 171023711

12:41am     Moscow & France                   Robbery w/Gun

A man standing on the corner was suddenly approached by a suspect wearing a hoodie. The suspect surprised the victim by producing a black firearm and asking him for his valuables. The victim told Ingleside Officers Zhao and Wong that he surrendered his wallet containing cash, bank cards, cell phone, and his California ID. The suspect then ran away west bound on France Street. 1:50pm       Avalon & Naples                    Attempted Robbery

A 17year old young man was suddenly confronted by a suspect who wanted his backpack. The victim told Ingleside Officer Espinoza that he was walking eastbound on Avalon nearing Naples when he noticed a man walking toward him. As he neared the suspect said, “Hey buddy, make it easy for you, give up your backpack”. The suspect then grabbed the victim’s arm and, with his other hand, attempted to remove the victim’s backpack from his body. The agitated and frightened victim kept his backpack, telling the suspect, “There’s nothing in it”. But the suspect was determined to get the victim’s property, “Buddy, I don’t want to hurt you, give up the backpack”. The victim resisted and the suspect, looking around, appeared to be worried that a passersby would notice the confrontation. Giving up, the suspect fled westbound on Avalon toward Edinburgh. 9:19pm       3300 Blk. Mission                  Robbery

Ingleside Officers Parker and Stoffel were dispatched to the Safeway Store to investigate a robbery. When they arrived, they found a Safeway security officer sitting outside the store flushing his eyes with water. The employee told the officers that a short time before he noticed three young women enter the store carrying empty shopping bags. Soon, thereafter, they tried to leave the store with full shopping bags without paying. When the victim attempted to block their escape, the suspect shot pepper spray in the Security officer’s eyes. A man heard the sound of glass breaking outside his home and walked outside to find an unknown man unloading trash from his pickup truck onto the victim’s sidewalk. The victim told Ingleside Officers Thompson, Dang, and Phillips that he told the suspect to “get your stuff”. The suspect said it wasn’t his “stuff” and grabbed the victim by the sweatshirt and threw him to the ground. The victim then ran inside to call police. He told the officers that he went back outside after the call and found the suspect had picked up a lot of the trash from the sidewalk before driving away. Report number: 171020416

                      Safe Shopper 2017 - Holiday Season Safety Tips

During this holiday season, the San Francisco Police Department will be working to enhance safety for residents, visitors and shoppers. There will be increased foot patrols in shopping areas throughout the city, including the horse/mounted unit, plainclothes officers and traffic enforcement.

“The men and women of the San Francisco Police Department wish everyone a safe and joyful holiday season,” said Chief William Scott. “Whether you’re shopping for gifts or going about your daily routine, it’s important to remain careful and aware to prevent theft. Follow our tips to help keep you and your belongings safe.”

• Stay alert when using electronic devices. Limit your distractions.

• Always be alert to your surroundings and have your keys in your hand as you approach your vehicle.

• Park Smart: Help avoid vehicle break-ins, leave nothing visible in your car. Consider moving your vehicle to a different location each time you load packages in the trunk. Try to use parking lots where there are parking attendants.

• Keep your wallet in a hard-to-reach place and carry only the cash and credit cards that you will need to complete your shopping.

• If someone demands your purse, wallet, or packages, surrender them, make note of the suspect’s description and direction they flee and call 911. Property can be replaced.

• If you see something, say something. If you witness criminal activity or see something or someone suspicious, flag down a police officer, call 911 or contact security.

• Use 311 to report auto burglaries.

• Shop with a companion, especially after dark, whenever possible.

• Shield your PIN when using ATMs or other electronic devices in public.

2:40am       Huron & Laura                      Armed Robbery

A husband and wife, sitting in their car talking, were robbed of their belongings. The victims told Ingleside Officers Demkowski and George that two suspects, one with a weapon, walked up to both sides of the car and demanded their property. The victim’s surrendered wallets and cell phones and the suspects fled in an unknown direction. Report number: 171017855

10:30pm     Cortland & Elsie                    Robbery

Ingleside Officers Zhao and Fogarty responded to a report of a street robbery. The victim told the officers that he was walking on Cortland near Mission and stopped at the intersection of Elsie and Cortland. Suddenly, two men approached from behind, grabbed his arms, and demanded “everything in your pockets”. The victim surrendered his wallet containing cash. One of the suspects removed the cash before handing the wallet back to the victim. The two then ran away on Elsie and entered a late model Honda Civic that sped away. Report number: 171020018

12:18pm     5900 Blk. Mission              Aggravated Assault

Ingleside Officers Watts and Park were dispatched to a report of an assault at a car repair business. When the officers arrived they found the two shop employees with a story to tell about a woman and a spray can. The pair told the officers that a woman walked into the shop trying to sell some items. The workers asked her to leave at which time the woman started hitting the pair of employees. She also stepped on a tool on the floor and fell to the ground. The suspect then left the shop only to return a short time later. She grabbed an empty spray can and again attacked the pair and several vehicles under repair in the shop, causing approximately $3000 in damage. Watts and Park arrested the woman at the scene and transported her to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: 17105906

A woman was robbed of her valuables while waiting for friends to finish a soccer match. The victim told Ingleside Officers Siracusa and Kikuchi that she was sitting in her locked car in the east parking lot when an unknown man tapped on the passenger side window and pointed a gun at her. The suspect stuck the gun through the window and demanded her backpack. Once he got her property he ran away towards Geneva Avenue. The loss was a cell phone, wallet, debit card, social security card, and a work permit. Report number: 171017407

6:09pm       4400 Blk. Mission                  Attempted Robbery

A man walked into a restaurant and attempted to steal some tamales. The restaurant manager stopped the thief and instead gave him a free plate of food and told him to leave, which he did, but not for long. A short time later he re-entered the restaurant and again tried to take some tamales. He was again rebuffed, but instead of leaving he took a bottle of beer and threw the contents at the manager. He also screamed that he wanted money and tried to steal the manager’s shoulder bag while kicking her. Ingleside Officers Hardy and Thomas arrived and placed the suspect in custody, but not without a struggle. He was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for attempted robbery, resisting arrest, outstanding warrants, and a probation violation. Report number: 171014243

8:24pm       300 Blk. Schwerin                   Resisting Arrest

Numerous Ingleside units were dispatched to the scene of an assault. The caller said there were three suspects. Ingleside Officers Mullin and Salazar spotted three men, matching the descriptions of the suspects, at a nearby bus stop. They stopped to talk to the three men. Two agreed to talk to the officers and one didn’t. He took off running with both officers in pursuit. They finally caught up with him a few blocks away and placed him custody. He was taken to Ingleside Station and, after questioning, was found that he was not involved with the incident. He was cited for resisting and delaying a police officer and released at the Station. A man awoke in the afternoon and found several messages from his bank about fraudulent charges on his credit cards. He called police when he noticed his front door open and his room in disarray. Ingleside Officer Peralta spoke to the victim who said he was out the evening before drinking at a nearby pub and doesn’t remember much after he returned home. Report number: 171013665

5:48pm       500 Block Precita                   Robbery

Three men, wearing ski masks, and carrying a semi-automatic rifle, ran into a liquor store, assaulted the clerk, and took a significant amount of cash. The victim told Ingleside Officers Quinlan and Rosales-Renteria, one of the suspect’s punched him in the face before forcing h[HAN1] im to open the register and take the day’s proceeds. The robbery took just minutes before the suspects exited the store and escaped in an unknown direction. Report number: 171014152

5:54pm       Unit Blk. Teddy                      Hot Prowl Burglary

A man on the second floor of his home heard someone trying to break into his garage. The victim yelled “Hey”, and the victim heard the suspect sprinting away from the home. Ingleside Officer Park and Sgt. Riskin arrived and determined the suspect gained access to the home by breaking the door on a backyard fence gaining access to the rear door of the home. The victim said nothing was taken during the attempted burglary. Report number: 171014168

8:05pm       Geneva & Vienna                             Aggravated Assault

A confrontation between a pedestrian and a driver morphed into an assault. The victim, the motorist, was driving down Geneva and was about to turn northbound onto Vienna Street when he noticed a man entering the crosswalk. The motorist stopped and the pedestrian yelled “slow down!” at the driver. Once the pedestrian safely crossed, the driver completed his turn only to hear a loud bang from the back of his car. He told Ingleside Officers Scott and Siracusa that he stopped his car and noticed damage to a rear fender. He also noticed the suspect waving a large stick at him. The suspect then tried to hit the victim several times with the stick before turning and fleeing into Crocker Park. The victim called police and Ingleside Officers Yu, Wise, Taylinog, Thomas, and Hardy arrested the suspect inside Crocker-Amazon Park. Report number: 171011584

A man walking down the stairs of Kenny Alley, near Mission Street, was suddenly confronted by two men. The victim told Ingleside Officers Quinlan and Rosales-Renteria that the suspects punched him on the back of the head knocking him to the ground. Once on the ground one suspect went through the victim’s pockets while the other held a gun to his face. The suspects took several hundred dollars in currency, a cell phone, and identification before fleeing north on Mission Street. Report number: 171011578

10:28pm     3300 Blk. Mission                            Robbery

A late `night shopping spree netted some snack food and important clues for the arrest of a pair of robbers. It started when Ingleside Officers Fogarty and Zhao were dispatched to the Safeway Store on the 3300 Block of Mission. When they arrived, the night manager told the officers that two suspects, who’ve stolen from the store before, walked in and went shopping. One of the suspects was carrying an empty cloth bag. The man and woman then showed up at the checkout line with several items that they paid for. However, the cloth bag was full of items they didn’t pay for. When the manager asked for them to pay for the stolen items, the suspects walked out of the store only to be confronted by a security officer. A struggle ensued between the officer and the robbers during which the bag and contents spilled on the ground. The suspects ran away and the security officer, along with store personnel, recovered some of the stolen items. They also recovered the woman robber’s purse containing her driver’s license, social security card, debit card, keys, earrings and miscellaneous papers. Store security video will also be viewed for additional evidence of the crime. Report number: 171012059
