It began when Ingleside Officers McMilton and Glenn noticed a late model black Audi SUV driving by without license plates. McMilton and Glenn stopped the car on the 4900 block of Mission. The woman driver didn’t have a valid license. It had expired last January. The car was a rental from a San Jose company. The company reported that it was rented with the name of a woman not matching the driver and was supposed to be returned almost two months ago. What’s more, the woman who rented the car also had her identification stolen from another vehicle and that identification and credit cards were found in the rental car. The officers also found several credit cards belonging to the victim which the victim never knew existed. They were procured using the victim’s information. Inside the car there were also identification belonging to two other car burglary cases. The driver was arrested for identity theft, vehicle theft, and driving without a license. Report number: 1510065836:30pm San Jose/Niagara Vehicle BurglaryThe San Francisco Police Department, along with many other California law enforcement agencies, is dealing with an epidemic of car burglaries. The Ingleside Station officers are focused on apprehending criminals who brazenly break into vehicles and steal the contents. On this day, Ingleside Officer Padilla and Sgt. Alvarez were working on special assignment looking for car burglars. They hit pay dirt when they spotted a suspect riding a bike on the sidewalk and periodically stopping to peer into parked autos. Occasionally, he would take out a key and attempt to open the passenger door. His first attempt was an older Honda, a prime choice of car burglars, but he was unsuccessful. Next was a Toyota pickup truck. Again, he failed. He rode off for a while and then returned to another Honda. This time the key worked and Padilla and Alvarez quickly surrounded the car finding the suspect inside rifling through the glove box and center console. He was arrested and transported to Ingleside Station for booking. Report number: 151009004Serious Incidents:2:00am 400 Blk Lansdale Hot Prowl BurglaryAn unreported car burglary of a garage door opener led to a far greater loss. Ingleside Officers Kerlegan and Thompson responded to a call of a burglary in progress. When the officers arrived they found the garage door open and the homeowner standing outside. He told the officers that he always placed a lock on the door after the theft. But he never changed the code for the opener. The victim said he woke up and 4am and didn’t notice anything wrong. However, at 6:45am, another resident told him that the garage door was open. He searched the downstairs area and discovered his wife’s purse containing credit cards and her driver’s license was missing along with other items. He told Officers Naser and Mora that he left his home at approximately 5:30pm. He said he left his home locked and secured. He later returned after a short while and noticed that the front gate was locked but the front door was slightly open.
