National Night Out

A Message from the Public Utilities Commission:
“A Call to Conserve Water”
We didn’t get enough rain or
snow this winter – plain and simple. The San Francisco Public Utilities
Commission (SFPUC) is officially asking all customers to voluntarily reduce
water use by 10%.
Conservation is easy; turn off
the faucet while brushing teeth or soaping hands; shorten shower time; install
water-efficient showerheads and faucet aerators; replace older toilets and
clothes washers with new water-efficient models; and, fix leaks. Please
visit sfwater.org/conservation for more information. The SFPUC offers an array of
conservation assistance including free water-saving devices, free Water-Wise
evaluations for homes, apartment buildings and businesses and rebates for
water-efficient toilets and clothes washers.

to help us stretch our limited Hetch Hetchy Water Supplies. Conserve today and
save for tomorrow.

annual benefit event: “The Grand
National Rodeo” on October 17, 2014, at the Cow Palace. The POA has contracted with TBS Productions

The San Francisco Neighborhood Emergency Response Team
(NERT) is free training from the San Francisco Fire Department in
how to help yourself and your neighbors prepare for and respond to a disaster
by working together. The 20-hour training, taught by First Responders, includes
personal preparedness, light search and rescue, disaster medicine, shutting off
your utilities, and how to participate as a member of a neighborhood response
team. NERT also offers continuing
training for graduates and activities that support building robust neighborhood

interested in disaster preparedness and wants to help out your community while
working hand in hand with law enforcement? Then the ALERT program is for
you!
What is the
A.L.E.R.T. Program?
The San Francisco Police Department has developed a
volunteer citizen disaster preparedness program. The Auxiliary Law Enforcement
Response Team (ALERT) is modeled after and works in partnership with the San
Francisco Fire Department's Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT). The
ALERT program will train members of the public to assist law enforcement in
essential tasks after a major disaster. Such tasks may include: traffic control,
foot patrol of business and residential areas, and reporting criminal activity.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and live, work, or attend high
school in San Francisco.
Three steps to becoming an
A.L.E.R.T. volunteer:
1. Complete NERT training and receive
certification. To register for NERT training courses please visit www.sfgov.org/sfnert
2. Once NERT certified, forward a copy
of your NERT ID card to the ALERT program. sfpdalert@sfov.org
3. After clearing a basic background
check the individual is eligible to register for ALERT training.
Arrests:
3:48pm Santos/Brookdale Resisting Arrest
Ingleside Sergeant Alvarez and Officers Barajas and Padilla were on routine patrol when they spotted a man on felony probation with a search condition standing with a group of other men. The officers exited their patrol car and walked over to talk to the probationer. When the felon saw the officers he started walking away but stopped at the officer’s request. When asked for identification he gave the officers a fictitious name. When asked to sit down on the ground he, instead, ran away. The officers quickly caught up with him and a violent struggle ensued with the suspect grabbing at Officer Padilla’s firearm and pulling back the hammer of the handgun. Fortunately, the three officers were able to place the suspect under control and into a patrol car. He was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for resisting arrest and other serious charges. Serious Incidents:
12:20am Silver/Mission Robbery
Ingleside Officers Dominguez and Ferronato went to the UCSF
emergency room to interview a robbery victim. The man told the officers that he
and his girlfriend were walking home from a bus stop at Silver and Mission when
they were approached by a suspect who told him to “Run your pockets”. When the victim told him “No”, the suspect
took out a knife and stabbed the victim in his right hand. The victim and his
girlfriend then ran a short distance to his home where he noticed the wound. He
then went to the hospital for treatment. Ingleside officers searched the crime
scene area for suspects without success. Report number: 140620243
