ALERT:  There has been an increase in auto boosts in the area of O’Shaughnessy and Bosworth.  The break ins are occurring around the hours of 9:00am to 12:00pm.  Please report any suspicious activity to the police.  Do not leave valuables in your cars. 

JUST A REMINDER:  Schools are out for summer session.  Please pay extra attention when driving around parks and playgrounds as children will be out all hours of the day.

Recently, a flyer was distributed to the community regarding scams targeting the monolingual Chinese.  These scams involve telling the victim that an evil spirit is following them.  They will ask the victim to bring valuables to pray over as an offering to the spirit. They will return to the victim what is believed to be their valuables. They will ask the victim not to look at their valuables for a day.  When the victim later checks their valuables, they find that the valuables were not returned by the suspects.

We urge all person(s) confronted with this scam to call 911 as this is a crime in progress.  By contacting 911, you greatly increase the chance of catching the suspect(s) so that the police can make an arrest.  If someone approaches you with this scam, decline their help, call 911 immediately and report it to the police.  Be a good witness.  Obtain a description of the suspect(s) and/or vehicles they are driving.

Arrests:

10:43am     Unit Blk Brookdale      Warrant
Officers Trail, Peregoy and Hopkins were en route to a call when they observed a vehicle double park and obstructing traffic.  A known female exited the vehicle and began walking away.  The officers recognized her from prior contacts, and were aware that she had an outstanding warrant.  They made contact with her and advised her she had a warrant.  A general search found the pants and shirt the suspect was wearing still had the store anti-theft sensors attached.  She was placed under arrest and transported to Ingleside station.  The vehicle was driven to Ingleside station as well. 

At Ingleside station, a computer check confirmed the warrant and that the suspect’s driver’s license was suspended.  An inventory search of the vehicle, prior to towing, located various items of clothing with the store anti-theft sensors attached, and a purse which the suspect claimed belonged to her.  Inside the purse was a California Driver’s License which did not belong to the suspect.  When asked about the license she voluntarily stated, “I use the license to drive because I know that mine is suspended.”  The suspect was booked at the instruction of Sgt. Gasanyan for possession of stolen property and driving on a suspended license. Officers took pictures of all items prior to booking them into evidence. Report Number 130524291

Arrests:

5:28pm       Richland/Andover        Narcotics
Sgt. Alvarez was on patrol when she observed a suspicious vehicle with occupants inside. Sgt. Alvarez continued on patrol and later drove by the same area where the occupants remained in the vehicle with the engine off.  She decided to do a well being check on the occupants.  After making contact with them, one of the occupants told Sgt. Alvarez that he might have an outstanding warrant.  A record check did not return with an active warrant, but revealed that both individuals were on probation.  A search of the occupants found several grams of a white crystal substance on one of them.  The amount was sufficient for Sgt. Alvarez to believe it was for sale of the substance and not for personal use. The suspect was transported to Ingleside station where the substance tested positive for methamphetamine and he was booked into custody.  The narcotics were hand delivered to the Narcotics Drop Box at the Hall of Justice.  Report Number 130522289 

9:45pm       1700 Blk Diamond       Burglary
Officers Ma and several other Ingleside officers, including Officer Jimenez and his police dog, responded to a possible burglary in progress.  As the officers approached, they could heard the sound of metal tools clicking in a garage area where the lights were off.  The garage door was slightly ajar and the officers knocked and asked the subjects inside to open the garage and step outside.  The suspects ignored their commands, and the police dog was sent inside where she located the two suspects.  The suspects were detained pending further investigation.

The officers met with the 911 caller who told them that she noticed a male subject crawling under the garage door and that he remained inside with the lights off.  She thought this behavior to be awkward and called the police.  The officers spoke with the detainees and both admitted that they did not reside at the premises.  They were transported to Ingleside station and booked at the instruction of Sgt. Smith. 

It should be noted that also recovered at the scene were two stolen vehicles which were towed to Auto Return.  Officers took pictures of the scene, the vehicles and the suspects’ clothing which were booked as evidence.  Report Number 130520051

Officers McMilton and Peregrina were sent to investigate an attempted robbery.  They met with the victim who said she was walking down the street when an unknown female exited a vehicle alongside her.  The suspect approached the victim who was on the phone and said, “Here’s the thing.  I have something in my back pocket.  You need to give me your phone and your bag right now.”  The victim began screaming and running away from the suspect and the suspect left the area.  The victim was not injured and said she could identify the suspect if she saw her again.  Officers searched the area for the vehicle and the suspect to no avail.  Report Number 130522831

1:00pm       4900 Blk Mission           Stolen Property
Ingleside Officer Busalacchi and Suguitan  responded to a report of a man trying to cash a stolen check. When they arrived on scene, other Ingleside officers had already taken the suspect into custody. Officer Busalacchi interviewed a clerk at the business who told him the suspect presented a check from a local construction company. He signed the check and placed a thumb print on the back of the check. When the clerk called the business to verify the check, an owner of the company said the check had been stolen in a car burglary. He traveled to the business and verified that the signature on the front of the check was not his. The suspect was taken into custody, transported to Ingleside station and booked for possession of stolen property. The check was booked at Ingleside station as evidence.  Report number: 130518573

Officers Pai and Cross were sent to the 100 block of Persia on a trespassing complaint. They met with the reportee who told the officers she discovered an unauthorized male inside the home. The reportee said the man snuck through an open window at the invitation of another resident. When he was asked to leave the home, the suspect and the resident both pushed her. The police were then called by another employee of the home. Because the battery was not witnessed by the police, the victim signed a citizen’s arrest and the suspects were cited for the battery.  Report number: 130517666

Ingleside Officers Pai and Cross were sent to a business after a citizen said he was assaulted by a customer. When the officers arrived, emergency medical crews were treating a clerk for pepper spray injuries. The clerk told the officers he noticed a customer stealing a donut from a display. When he told her to put the donut back and leave the store, she walked over to the clerk, pepper sprayed him, and then ran away. The victim told police he recognized the suspect from previous theft events. The owner of the store arrived and promised to send surveillance video of the event to Ingleside Station’s Investigative Team. Report number: 130517393

5:51am       Staples/Hazelwood        Stolen Auto
Ingleside Officers Pereira and Cross were attending the morning lineup when they heard Officer Hermosa radio for assistance to help with an auto burglary in progress. Officers Pereira, Cross and several other Ingleside units responded and located Officer Hermosa who had a suspect handcuffed and sitting on the sidewalk.  The suspect was sitting next to a white Toyota that had collided with a parked BMW. Officer Hermosa said another suspect was at large, having escaped by jumping over nearby fences into neighboring backyards. Officers Pereira and Cross scaled several fences in an unsuccessful search for the second suspect. The officers returned to the scene of the accident, and transported the suspect back to Ingleside Station. A computer check revealed the owner of the Toyota who the officers successfully located.  He confirmed that his car had been stolen. The suspect was booked at Ingleside Station for auto theft, parole violation, and other charges at the instruction of Sgt. Gasanyan. The stolen car was returned to its owner. 6:14pm       3400 Blk  Mission         Possession of Stolen Property
Ingleside Officers Yuen and Archilla were on patrol when they spotted a car parked in front of a fire hydrant. A computer check revealed the license plates on the car were stolen. Just then, a young male boarded the vehicle and started driving away. The officer affected a traffic stop and spoke with the driver. The driver asked the officers why he was stopped. When he was told the license plates on his car were stolen he said, “My friend gave them to me and I put them on the car so I could drive”. A computer check revealed the car he was driving belonged to him, but had not been registered for over two years. The driver was taken to Ingleside Station and booked for possession of stolen property. The vehicle was towed at the instruction of Sgt. Riskin.  Report number: 130512644

1:50am       100 Blk Onondaga       Robbery
Officer Lustenberger was on patrol when he was flagged down by a man standing in the intersection of Ocean and Cayuga. The victim told the officer he was approached by a shotgun wielding suspect while walking on the 100 block of Onondaga. The man had exited a dark sedan and demanded the victim’s wallet and IPhone saying, “You think I’m kidding”?  The victim, fearing for his life, handed over his property. The suspect then told the victim to walk away.  The victim later flagged down Officer Lustenberger. A search of the area by Ingleside officers failed to turn up the suspect or the dark sedan.  The suspect believed he could identify him if he saw him again.  He was not injured and refused medical assistance. Ingleside Officers Hornstein and Chicas were dispatched to the corner of Persia and Dublin to check on the well being of a citizen. When they arrived, they were met by a neighbor who told them she was approached by a man who was stumbling and bleeding and asked her to call the police. She said the victim went into a home on the 100 block of Dublin. The officers responded to the home the witness pointed out and found the victim sitting inside with a large laceration to the back of his head. The officers called for medical help and then asked the victim what happened. He told the officers that he was walking down the street drinking a bottle of beer when an unknown suspect approached him, violently ripped the beer bottle from his hand, and smashed it on his head. The suspect then reached into the victim’s pocket and took his IPhone.  The suspect then boarded a waiting vehicle and fled the area. The victim provided a description of the suspect and the vehicle and said he could identify the suspect.  Officer Chicas took pictures of the victim’s injuries for evidence.  The officers searched the area for the suspect and the vehicle to no avail.  Report number: 130516442
